| Q # So what is “Bombay Black”? A band, an Album or a movement?
Bombay Black represents the music of this city and hints at the rise of an alternate
culture # What kind of music would one expect to hear on “Bombay
Black"? we have so many different kinds of music , the CD starts if with this funk vibe, takes a turn into ambient music, hints at the pop culture, Drum n Bass, there’s a Sufi-politico song, Electronic Rock and Jazz-Indian classical fusion music … its like words fail to express the music…Its not any particular genre of music cause that’s the way we are and
there's so many of us. We are inspired by so many kinds of music … the CD is an all about
that Q# What exactly do you expect to achieve from this CD ? Being a musician dedicated to his / her art , there's few outlets to express yourself unless you subject yourself to commercial and established norms. We all work in studios doing session for TV , Movies etc. but that renders a musician stagnant and often frustrated , creatively !!
We put out this CD , as an attempt to break out of this establishment and spread awareness about
some new music. Big labels might not consider us "profitable" or "fashionable".
We are getting on the net cause it's a "free" world out there and you can get across to anyone with your music, it's the best
thing for any aspiring musician...Q # It must have be an elaborate and expensive affair to put this album together, considering its not sponsored ?Well the whole
CD (cut version) cost us some Rs.165/- !!. Most of the album is a very home production thing. Music on Bombay Black was done at home on digital recorders, samplers, synthesizers etc. We have recorded a lot of the things live like guitars, bass, vocals and drums in some songs. Some
sound design and DSP functions were involved. The fact that technology is becoming so cheap and accessible that we just compiled all the songs
at a home studio level ! Computers and digital audio has become so user friendly that putting eleven songs on the CD seemed
easier …of course late night sessions and some 'deep' edits were
involved and Bombay black too! Q # How have the people
reacted to Bombay Black ? It feels good that
so many different kind of people reacted in such different ways to
Bombay Black . Natural ! We got musicians coming back to us with
greetings, some people want to contribute to the music, the press was
cautious and cool about this Black business. Some ROCKERZ have hated us
but then thats evolution hahaha !! feed back via the internet is encouraging ...
